Lou Conter, the last living survivor of the USS Arizona battleship that sank during the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor, passed away at the age of 102.

– Conter died at his home in Grass Valley, California, due to congestive heart failure.
– The USS Arizona lost 1,177 sailors and Marines during the attack in 1941.
– Conter was a quartermaster on the Arizona when Japanese planes attacked.
– One bomb penetrated the ship’s steel decks, causing a massive explosion.
– Conter described the battleship being lifted 30 to 40 feet out of the water and everything from the mainmast forward being on fire.
