Meet Linda Martell, the country singer who is featured on Beyoncé’s album ‘Cowboy Carter’.
Beyoncé released an album called Cowboy Carter on March 29, paying homage to country legends like Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton while featuring Linda Martell, the first commercially successful Black female country star. Martell faced discrimination in her career and became the first Black female artist to play at the Grand Ole Opry. Despite her success, Martell only released one album in 1970. She eventually left the music industry and became a bus driver, teaching children with special needs. Beyoncé collaborated with Martell on Cowboy Carter, featuring her on two tracks.
