Peruvian President Boluarte’s residence is raided in luxury watch investigation

In a televised address, Peruvian president Dina Boluarte criticized the investigation into possible illicit enrichment at her home, where police forcibly entered looking for luxury watches.
The investigation started after Boluarte was seen wearing a Rolex watch and later found to have more luxury watches, which were not declared in her asset declaration.
Boluarte denied accusations of corruption and stated that her lawyer advised her not to make any statements until she attends the prosecutor’s office.
Attorney General’s Office found approximately 10 “nice” watches at the presidential palace, some of which were Rolexes.
Political turmoil in Peru has been ongoing, with allegations of corruption potentially inciting further unrest.
Boluarte is set to testify to the prosecutor’s office on April 5, with critics claiming her government has taken an authoritarian turn.
